The Great British Sewing Bee Live – Case Study

Following our long-standing relationship with Upper Street Events, we were delighted when called upon to assist in the design and delivery of the features for this brand-new show at ExCel. In line with the TV show and following the identity as laid out by Love Productions, we were tasked with providing show AV and feature builds for the Main Stage, Catwalk and Demo Theatre.

The brief for the Main Stage, built in an adjacent hall to the main exhibition, was to design a stage and set so contestants could perform various timed challenges against each other under the guidance of GBSB presenters Patrick Grant and Esme Young. The host for this stage was Jenny Eclair, bringing her usual charm and wit to the seated audience of 500 per session. We provided all staging, draping, set using tension fabric system, lighting, PA, large LED screen from A3Pro and cameras including capture for post-edit.

The Catwalk stage was situated within the exhibition hall, therefore we had to consider the surrounding exhibitors whilst the shows ran so as not to disturb their engaging activities. We designed a catwalk stage and structure using flown truss, lighting and PA, set walls using tension fabric and stage thrust with a dancefloor top and solid fascia. The shows ran three per day and allowed various brands to showcase their work to a busy audience.

OBS also provided the AV to exhibitors and on the Demo Stage including PA, screens and camera.

Operations manager Jo Shirley commented: “Thanks so much Steve for all your efforts and support on the show. I was hugely pleased with the features”
